2024/25 ACADEMIC YEAR COMMENCES 30TH OCTOBER 2024
The 2024/25 academic year for single track schools commences on 30th October for all three streams. Students will be in school for 8 weeks and go for Christmas break on 20th December to 2nd January 2024. First semester academic work continues from 3rd January 2024 and ends on March 5th 2024.
Eligible voters will be given a break to cast their ballot from 5th to the 9th December 2024.
Second semester will begin on 30th March 2025 and ends 27th August 2025.
2023/24 ACADEMIC YEAR COMMENCES 1ST NOVEMBER 2023
The 2023/24 academic year for single track schools commences on Wednesday 1st November 2023. Students will be in school for 8 weeks and go for Christmas break on 21st December to 2nd January 2024. First semester academic work continues from 3rd January 2024 and ends on March 5th 2024. This provision is for 2nd and 3rd year students.
First year students however, will report on 4th December 2023 and vacate 15th March 2024. They will also have the same break for Christmas.
Second semester will begin on 3rd May 2024 and ends 28th August 2024.
20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION LAUNCHING
Eastern Region based Diaspora Girls’ Senior High School has on Thursday, 2nd February, 2023 earmarked its 20years of top-level education in grand style since its inception in 2003.
Situated in Obodan in the Akuapem South Municipality of the aforementioned region, the single sex senior secondary school which hails to ‘Education is the key to a better life’ as its motto has as part of its scheduled 7day long 20th anniversary celebration slated for 1st-7th May, 2023 outdoored the eventful occasion with an official launch to it on Thursday.
Dubbed “Sustaining 20 Years Of Quality Girl Child Education Through Partnership: Prospects And Challenges,” the briefly held launching ceremony which pulled to it, highly reverenced personalities within the region saw Nana Yirenkyi Duamon ll, Obodan Siahene, Mr. Mohammed Ali, the Akuapem South Municipal SHS Coordinator, Assembly member for the area Hon. Odei Amon, Madam Mrs. Cynthia Anim, Headmistress for Aburi Girls and a host others all trooped in to grace the event.
The school which since 2003 has graduated over 2,000 students having contributed enormously in reaching out high level of quality education to these pupils on Thursday consequently doubled up its launching ceremony with a colourful launch float across the principal streets of Obodan.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Headmistress for the school, Mrs. Ama Thompson who joyously tendered in her heartfelt appreciation to some important personalities whose unending effort has propelled the school ascertain the enviable height it’s currently chopping. Forgetting not those whose foresight saw to the establishment of Diaspora Girls’ Senior High some 20years back.
Mrs. Ama Thompson, moreover, edged old students of the school, parents, Obodan community and all well-meaning Ghanaians to come on board to make their twentieth anniversary celebration a success.
Impressedly causing shocks through the spines of many within the educational sector, the Diaspora Girls’ Senior High School hasn’t been the budding educational hub it is, in the just ended West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) had its registered students score an impressive 77% pass mark with a subject segmentation of 84.67% pass mark in English Language, 98.54% pass mark in Mathematics, 77.00% pass mark in Science and a 86.13% pass mark in Social Studies.
Meanwhile, the one week scheduled anniversary itinerary slated to hold in the next three (3) months has Monday, 1st May, 2023 set for a mega float from the Nsawam township through to the principal streets of Obodan. As the 5th of May is scheduled for the school’s Homecoming, where its old students will be called upon to come and re-live the SHS life once again.
6th May on the programme’s itinerary is scheduled for the anniversary’s grand durbar. Whereas, 7th May being the climax of the anniversary will commemorate a thanksgiving service for the programme.
However, events slated to hold from Tuesday, 2nd-4th May are currently on deliberation as to what better programmes to be fitted for these days. Having already proposed a major cleanup exercise at various hospitals which are proximity friendly to the school.

INAUGURATION OF SCIENCE LABORATORY
As part of the overall agenda of educating the girl child in science and technology, Diaspora Girls SHS has refurbished two rooms and transformed it into a science laboratory.
This initiative was championed by the Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Ama Thompson,who under her auspices started the General Science Programme in 2019. The lab is fitted with ultra-modern science laboratory equipments as well as chemicals for use.
The inauguration was graced by the Board Chairman of the School, The Regional Director of Education, The District Director of Education, Representatives from the District Assembly, Old Girls of MMEASIMA and Chieftaincy Council of Obodan as well as the Assembly Member of the Obodan Community.
CHAMPIONS FOR THE FIRST TIME
Diaspora Girls' Soccer Team won their first ever soccer trophy after an impressive run of form. The team lead by Captain Joanna Enyeminku dazzled throughout the competition.
The team was placed in Group C with Methodist Girls, Okuapeman SHS and Larteh PSTS. The first game of the group was against Methodist Girls. Beatrice Dzifa Tsifokor scored the opener with an stunning freekick in the first half of the game. Short after commencement of the second half, Afriyie Akosua Agyeiwaa made it two by converting beautifully an awarded spot kick after a freekick heading for a goal removed by the hand of a defender. The match ended 2-0 in favour of Diaspora Girls.
The second group game match was against Larteh PSTS. A mistake by the keeper led to the first goal scored by Larteh PSTS. Soon after that, the team kept on pressuring and eventually won a penalty kick as a player handled a ball with the hand in the penalty box. A poor penalty taken by Afriyie Akosua Agyeiwaa ensured that the scores remained 1 nil against Diaspora Girls'. During the second half, pressure was mounted on Larteh PSTS and eventually the team won another penalty. The penalty was beautifully taken by Beatrice Tsiforkor. The match ended 1-1 and headed for the spot kick. Beatrice missed the first Kick for Diaspora Girls while Afriyie Akosua, Joanna Enyeminku and Olivia Appiah scored. The keeper, Precious Ntade saved three of the four kicks by Larteh PSTS.
The third match was just a stroll in the park as the team started high pressing right from the word go. This resulted in an early goal in the 4th minutes by Joanna, followed by an own goal and amother goal by Joanna in the 12minutes. The second half was all one sided as Olivia entertained the fans with her dribbling prowess. The match ended 3-0 which ensured that the team topped Group C with 8pts and +5 Goals.
The quarter final game was against Nifa SHS. The first goal was scored courtesy Priscilla Azure as she beautifully controls a cross by Olivia and shot through a crowded defense into the goal. The second goal was an own goal
The semi final game was against Aburi PSTS. A goal each from Afriyie Akosua and Olivia. Olivia scored a beauty after dribbling three defenders and curling the ball beautifully into the net through the side of the keeper. The second goal came from a corner which slighly touched the defender of Aburi PSTS. All goals were scored in the first half.
The stage of the finals was set between Diaspora Girls' and Larteh PSTS. These two teams met in the group stage and as such it was a fierce one. Up until now, they were the only team to have breached the goal of Diaspora. The game kicked off with a high pressing from Diaspora Girls'. It was a dangerous approach as the team, Larteh PSTS, was composed. Eventually, the high pressing paid off as a through ball laid by Akosua Afriyie found Joanna who sped with ball and placed it through the left of the keeper who was helpless at that Mount. The team kept on mounting pressure until the final whistle. The team was denied two penalty kicks as both Olivia and Joanna were brought down in the box after they have beaten their marker. The Diasporian keeper was called on to make a save, and that was the only time throughout the competition that she had to touch the ball in a regular playing time. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Diaspora Girls'.
Diaspora Girls' ended the competition having scored 11 goals and conceding 1.
